Glynn County is located in Georgia and part of the Brunswick Metro Area.  Over 79,000 residents call Glynn County home. It is one of the original 8 counties in Georgia, dating back to 1777.  Its namesake, John Glynn, was a member of the British parliament who defended the creation of the American colonies before the revolution. The most prominent sea islands in Georgia, known as the Golden Isles, are located in Glynn County, which includes St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island, Little St. Simons Island, Blythe Island, and Sea Island. In addition to its location along the coast, this makes Glynn County a recreational hot spot for both residents and visitors.

Shopping & Dining

Being a recreation destination makes Glynn County a haven also for shopping and dining. On the Golden Isles, you’ll find outdoor markets, specialty shops, designer fashions, souvenirs, surf shops, art galleries, antique stores, and more. There are a number of shopping districts within the Golden Isles.  On St. Simon’s Island, you’ll find Redfern Village, which features specialty stores, salons, day spas, and great food.  Also on St. Simons is the Pier Village District, home to great shops, restaurants, St. Simon’s Lighthouse, and Neptune Park that features a number of facilities for recreating.  Downtown Brunswick is an ideal place to spend the day shopping in a historic setting or enjoying local seafood.  You can also take a walking tour of the many sights the historic downtown area has to offer.

The food in Glynn County is something that people come from all around to enjoy.  Indigo Coastal Shanty is a unique seafood restaurant that serves some of the best seafood in the county. Pizza lovers will rejoice over the amazing pizzas created at Fox's Pizza in Downtown Brunswick. And how could you live in the south without great BBQ? Copper Pig BBQ & Smokehouse will delight your tastebuds with their Southern Style Barbecue, slow smoked in house. Parks & Recreation

Glynn  County is a recreation mecca. The Golden Isles especially are rich with activities and attractions.  If you want to enjoy some peace and quiet, you can take a kayak through the quiet marshes of Glynn.  Or just relax on the beach as you watch the shrimp boats off on the horizon.  You may even see dolphins as they feed along the currents. There are a number of dog-friendly beaches as well.  And the fun doesn’t stop there.  You can go biking, bird watching, boating, bowling, camping, go on a cruise, play disc golf, traditional golfing, hiking, horseback riding, and the list goes on. All of this just on the Golden Isles.

The Golden Isles are also home to a large list of attractions, featuring historic landmarks, theaters, and museums, all of which speak to the rich history of Glynn County and the Isles. You can step back into the 1700’s at the Bloody Marsh Battle Site where British troops defeated the Spanish, stopping an attack on Fort Frederica. Or explore the Fort Frederica National Monument, another landmark in the conflict between Spain and Britain. American history comes alive in Glyn County’s parks.


Students living in Glynn County are educated by the Glynn County School System. The system takes care of 10 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 2 high schools.  Elementary schools include Burroughs-Molette Elementary School, Golden Isles Elementary School, Satilla Marsh Elementary School, and Sterling Elementary School. The middle schools consist of Glynn Middle School, Jane Macon Middle School, Risley Middle School, and Needwood Middle School.  The two high schools are Brunswick High School and Glynn Academy.
